Second Hour

The First Baptist Church of Mansfield has a strong commitment to Christian Education in all its various manifestations. The objectives of our program are to aid learning about God and to promote growth in a personal relationship with the God of the Scriptures; to encourage valuing the Bible as a guide for daily living; and to develop a variety of skills for effective use of the Bible as authoritative for Christian faith and life, and as a guide for daily living. The board of Christian Education is charged with administering this ministry.

FBCM Second HourEveryone Welcome!

The Second Hour program is designed to provide an energetic, meaningful program that will follow the morning worship service. There will be different programs each week; some divided into groups by age, and others with everyone participating together.

A few examples of the type of activities we will offer are:

  • Book Club
  • Hands on missions
  • Guest speakers
  • Subject based lesson series
  • Alternative lessons
  • Adult Bible Study

On Friday, Jan 13th, we are having a potluck dinner at 5:30 followed by the movie “War Room”.

The following 6 sessions of our adult and young adult “Second Hour” ministry will be Bible study based on clips from the movie.

Tony and Elizabeth Jordan seemingly have it all – great jobs, a beautiful daughter, their dream home. But appearances can be deceiving. In reality, their marriage has become a war zone and their daughter is collateral damage. But with the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discovers she can start fighting for her family instead of against them. With her newly energized faith, Elizabeth’s real Enemy doesn’t have a prayer. Session topics include: lukewarmness, accountability, gospel and grace, spiritual warfare, and prayer.

  • Discover the power of prayer within the context of a small group
  • Expand participants’ understanding of spiritual warfare
  • Develop strategies to battle the real Enemy through prayer
  • Dig deeper into the spiritual discipline aspects of prayer
  • Create opportunity for study among both inexperienced Bible study students and those well-versed in Scripture

Grades K-2

Deep Blue is an early elementary Bible study program designed for children ages 5-6 years and invites them to “dive deep” into God’s word. The program incorporates pillar stories from the Old and New Testaments into activities, arts and crafts, interactive discussions and animated videos featuring stories of 4 different “Deep Blue” kids’ adventures, as well as challenges, and how they “work it out”.

Grades 3-6

Building Faith with Legos… CS Lewis has written a series of children’s books titled The Chronicles of Narnia. These stories help kids learn about Christian faith from a different approach. The first book in this series is The Magician’s Nephew which begins with the creation of Narnia. That is one of the main themes of this class. When we first meet God in the Bible, God is creating. God is the Creator. As kids learn about God they are also having fun with creating structures with legos.

High School

Stickyfaith… In our youth class we are looking at different scripture passages that apply to our lives. As we study these passages we are trying to understand them, and we are also looking for ways to carry them with us when we leave the church and go about our lives at home and school, and any other places we go. Our faith should be a part of our everyday lives and in that sense our faith should stick to us wherever we go and whatever we do.

Adults

For adults there will be two options:
1. Bible study in the church office at the end of the hall. This year’s studies will start with John’s epistles.
2. Women of Faith… a Joy Filled Life.
This is a study for men and women. It looks at how our faith can fit into our daily lives. It is a mixture of Bible study and discussion to learn how when it comes to our faith, the rubber meets the road. How can we live out our faith in today’s world?
